    Default DGM Filter.

After much debate, I opted for a DGM cosmetic 2nd NPB filter. I only got the 1.25 as it was cheap and I had a gift card lol. I went backand forth on a couple, notably the Zhumell UHC, as again, its cheap and has decent reviews. Apparently the DGM NPB is one of the best around? I know some on here have purchased it ( and I got some of this info last night on google search and read JG's posts from 2012 on this very subject! So Thanks JG! ) and have high remarks. What nebs is this good for?

This will predominantly work for emission nebulae (H-II regions), such as M8, M16, M17, M20, M42, etc. It can also work well with many planetary nebulae. Typically for planetary aficionados the O-III filter tends to be the one of choice, but a narrow-band nebula filter, like the DGM, will also be helpful on many. That type of filter is the best all-around filter to have in your case as it works with many, many objects. It will not be helpful with reflection nebulae, such as that around M45 (Pleiades) however. When trying to see the emission nebula (H-II regions) in M33, the DGM can also be useful. It will dim the overall galaxy, but improve the contrast for those H-II regions. Congratulations on a wise choice and have fun!

Hi Tim! Congrats on the filter! That's a good one! It should serve you well on both planetary nebulae and many bright nebulae.

Thanks. I will read up on that Bryan. It was funny. I googled it and got an old thread from JG that was pretty informative surrounding the same topic. Really helped the decision. And I called and talked to Dan. He talked me into a 2nd. Said he wholeheartedly recommends them!

I have the 2" version of the NPB and DGM O-III and will say you made the right choice, you'll surely like it. The two links on this webpage by David Knisely should help you with your filter choices and follows on nicely to what's already been mentioned above.
