Default You looking for a barlow?

As I often do, I was just perusing various vendor sites to see what they have new and interesting, or on sale. I happened to stop by the telescopes.com site and found they have their 2x 2/1.25 inch ED barlow for a $54.98 shipped. I have always enjoyed dealing with Agena Astro so I checked their pricing for their 2x 2/1.25 inch ED barlow and it is on sale at $68.00 shipped. These are the same exact barlow, made by GSO in Taiwan (compare the pictures) with different labels. As much as I like Agena this seems like a no-brainer to me. The same barlow for $13 less. Hey, a bargain is a bargain! So if you are in the market for a good standard barlow, then I feel the Zhumell is a good deal to be had.

The GSO Barlow is sold by a lot of companies with their own brand name on them. I had one, a High Point from High Point Scientific (a GSO with their name on it), and it did a very good job. I eventually got the ES Focal Extenders. I setup my adult grandson with a 4" refractor and set of eyepieces and he now has the GSO 2" ED and it continues to do an excellent job for him.

Good find. I bought the GSO barlow a month ago for $75 and love it. $55 is a GREAT price!

Right you are Johnny, I completely forgot about HPS. I just checked and they are at a $60 price point for the same barlow with the HPS moniker on it, which isn't bad. However, they do charge shipping which will put them about on par with Agena total-wise. So far the Zhumell labeled one still wins the price war for the exact same barlow.

The Zhumell <GSO> 2"/2x ED Barlow was one of my first EP purchases. Yeah, I'm cheap like that, and proud of it...... I couldn't argue the $49 with shipping at that time....It's very good quality.... Later I ran across a Televue Big Barlow for a good price so now I have two 2"/2x barlows for my scope....The Televue is very good quality as well.

I like the GSO design better because of the option to step it down to 1.5x...Comparing them visually observing, I would challenge anyone to see much of any difference between the two. If a difference exists, I can't see it with my eyes....

Agree Bob, most observers wouldn't see a difference. Someone with a lot of experience and a very critical eye yes, but most, not really.
