Default Are GSO 30mm Superview and Zhumell 30mm wideview the same eyepiece

Just bought a used Zhumell wideview 30mm 2" eyepiece and was wondering if it is just a re branded GSO superview. Just want to know if it's a 3 element or 5 element eyepiece

Thanks not_Fritz. I bought it to use on my 10" f4/7 Dob. Would this be a good choice eyepiece. Got it for 40 bucks

It's decent enough. I scored almost the entire Messier catalog with mine. Some coma around the edges, but easy to tolerate and deal with. It's by no means the best EP around, but quite serviceable.

Unless you just "gotta have" a replacement, it's just fine for DSO hunting in your Dob. The slight bit of coma at the edges won't affect your DSO hunting anyway.

I know it won't compare to a ES eyepiece at 170 bucks but that's what I'm saving for in the future. I just wasn't happy with my 28mm Orion 2" eyepiece that came with my XT10g. I'm hoping this will give better views

At the price it is fine. At some point you might want to upgrade, but I recommend trying out other eyepieces at a club meet for instance before buying.

The main things to think about with eyepieces: exit pupil, aberrations, and AFOV.

Your 30mm will give a little more than a 6mm exit pupil so your iris needs to dilate that much to accept all the light, otherwise it's like stopping down your scope's aperture. The superwides tend to have a little bit of astigmatism/coma that is noticeable at the edge of field. I like the ~70 degree format AFOV. It's my usual choice.

It's a perfectly fine finder eyepiece. But you may eventually want to get something with better edge of field correction or a different AFOV. Try before you buy.

I enjoy the 30mm Zhumell eyepiece, have used mine extensively since I got the scope back in 2012. Currently tracking down the Herschel 400 with it. It performed well on the Messier objects.

On my old home-made 8" Dob I used a 28mm Kellner in a 1.25" barrel, this GSO eyepiece is light years ahead of the old Kellner, which I never use anymore. One of these days I'm going to buy the 18mm ES eyepiece but haven't ordered yet.

I agree with what everyone else said...good EP, it has some coma at the edge, but it is not horrible.
