Default Vite 23mm Aspheric EP review.,

It arrived yesterday.,and I got to use it last night for a bit.,(clouds coming and going).,in my 80mm F/11.,,it's a very lightweight EP.,plastic body.,thin aluminum barrel.,a nice rubber top,.and generous eye relief.,make it comfy to use.,I choose M11 as my target.,and the view was very nice at 39x.,1.58*TFOV.,stars were sharp to the edge..I swapped to a 25mm TV plossl,.,giving 36x.,w/1.44*TFOV.,my eyes couldn't see much.,,if any difference in the view.,I went back and forth between the EPs several times.,also viewing an area in the middle of the milkyway.,I was impressed indeed with this EP.,,I didn't barlow it.,or try it in another scope.,,but so far.,so good.,,I paid $18 on Amazon.,,a poster on CN got it for $9 on e-bay.,,Either one is a good deal as far as my eyes can see.,,O+O

Thanks Davy. However, I wouldn't expect much from a 3 element EP in faster scopes. One person tried it in an XT10 and noted it showed a fair amount of astigmatism in the outer field. So it certainly isn't for every scope. I susect it would do just fine in my 60mm f/15 or maybe passable in my AR127 f/6.5, but in my 17.5 f/4.5, it would be a nightmare. The guy who reviewed it and took one apart opined that its possible they are a prototype that Celestron was working on but never marketed, though obviously we don't know. If it matters to anyone, the aspheric lens is plastic, though as he said, as long at its an internal lens that is non-glass, he wasn't too concerned since the eye lens is the one that takes the abuse from repeated cleaning.

If someone wants to give them a shot there are plenty of sellers on ebay at various prices, typically in the $9 to $10 range, though some are higher. Here is a search result. Just for the fun of it I likely will order one. Can't fault a $10 EP too much, plus it will work well in my little 'fractor.

Then again, all the US sellers are listed in Secaucus so obviously these are coming from one distribution point, which originates in China. Anyway good luck for any who try them.

I stated that incorrectly. While its true the aspheric lens is plastic, my wording above may have implied that its an internal lens rather than the eye lens, which is incorrect. The plastic lens is indeed the eye lens. What the reviewer actually said is that if they were going to use plastic it would be better if it were an internal lens rather than one that gets cleaned repeatedly. So the hardness of the coatings used will dictate how well it holds up to repeated cleanings.

Glad you like it. I like mine and it perform well in my F10 SCT and my F7.5 ED127. I agree, in faster scopes, maybe not as good. I does not bother me that the eye lens is made out of a polymer rather than glass, as long as it performs well. I think they chose a polymer because it is easier to make the Aspheric curves out of a Polymer rather than glass. Either way it works. I wont be selling off my high-end eyepieces, but this is a keeper

I would say the bigger consideration in using a polymer for the eye lens is that its cheaper than glass. That its easier to work with is likely an additional bonus for them (whoever actually made them). Regardless the bottom line is if the buyer likes the performance in their scopes. Like I said, its hard to find fault in an eyepiece you only pay $10 for.
