    Default Celestron 20mm Erecting Eyepiece.

My telescope was a gift and I am a complete novice when it comes to what to expect. When viewing through the day the image is sideways - why? And at night I cannot locate even the full moon. I have removed the lens cover - yes.
I really thought I would be able to assemble and start gazing but that has not been the case. Am I so dumb?

Well first up there are never dumb questions. Simply you lack experience with a type of technology you have not encountered before

Now to help you, could you give us an idea of what sort of telescope you using

Lastly, there can be a number of reasons why you cant find/see the full Moon

This forum is bursting with people more than willing and able to help you get up and running

I have the AstroMaster 114 EQ. And I really appreciate the help and kindness offered on this site - you are amazing.

Sadly I still have no answers from Celestron about my viewing problems so the telescope still sits idle. One representative said he thought the telescope was faulty and it should be replaced. When I put this to head office they said I had probably assembled it incorrectly. I sent them photos and never heard back.

After a few more posts, you should be able to upload images here on the forum. These might help us diagnose what could be awry.

Using the keep it simple principle, try using the telescope without the erecting eyepiece/prism - install your longest focal length eyepiece directly into the focuser's draw-tube, and in daylight, point the telescope at a distant object (ideally something large, like a water tower, building, etc) at least a 1/2 mile away.

Run the focuser's draw-tube either all the way in, or all the way out, then very slowly adjust the focuser in the opposite direction until the object comes into view. It will be inverted in the eyepiece, this is normal. This will give you some basic diagnostic information about the telescope's function. Once you can rule in, or out problems in this most simple configuration, you can incrementally change the telescope's configuration by adding components in one at a time until things are sorted out.
