    Default Delos I'm a believer

I am a believer in Delos eyepieces. I will state that the Delos eyepieces do give the Siebert Optics Modified Ortho's a good run. The sky conditions are not the best tonight, but man what an eyepiece. I have only had time to use the eyepiece with the 6" f/9ED refractor. The clouds look like they are going to put an end to my testing for tonight. I do think the Hype is real. From what little I have observed through the 6mm and the 17.3mm Delos, I am going to get a pair of 10mm's and one more 6mm and 17.3mm to use in my binoviewers. I am in no way saying that the Delos spanked the Ortho's, as I need to do some serious viewing of Saturn and the moon with the 8" refractor. But, I do like the contrast and the sharpness that I need to double up on these Delos eyepieces for my binoviewers.

I like them as much as the Ortho's. The Ortho's do have a little bit better contrast, but not much. I like the Delos enough to spend a good amount of money to double up on them for binoviewing. The Delos are great deep sky eyepieces. I am never one to call an eyeiece great. I use to like my 17mm T4 Nag., but the 17.3mm Delos is a much better eyepiece.

    Hello Johann,

thanks for the first light report on Delos. Have you any info on their optical design, like #of lenses and #of groups? Eventually ED glas inside?

How are they corrected for a refractor - neutrally, over or under?

Some reports on the preseries Delos have found something like a tiny bluish fringing at the rim of the field stop, indicating possible over correcting, or weiss der Teufel was.

How would the Delos rate against the 'classical' Pentax XF, regarding the transmissivity and contrast? The Pentax XF is not ED and not ultra wide, but it offers nice viewing.

    Looking forward to your reports
