    Default Pulled the trigger on ortho EP

    After all the discussion in Help With Getting The Right Eyepieces, I decided to "put up or shut up" and pulled the trigger. I waffled for hours but finally decided on the University Optics 5mm Abbe Orthoscopic EP.

    Why the UO over the Baader? Two reasons:

    1. The UO was less expensive, and the reviews were pretty much split on which was better. So I figured they must be close enough to not really matter, so I saved some $$.

    2. I suspect the "volcano top" style on the UO EPs will be more comfortable to use with the crazy-short eye relief. I'm hoping that the conical top will help to avoid my cheeks or eyebrows bumping into the EP while trying to observe.

    I'll be sure to report back once I get to try it out!

    Lame! But I will be checking back for a report once your skies clear up. Those sound like great planetary EPs for the money.

    Still having poor observing conditions (despite the CSC in my sig) -- the wind has been whipping through SoCal so I still can't get the scope out to try the new EP. The curse!!!

    I hope the weather gets better, as I know there will be some observers that will like to know how the Orthos work out for you. Thanks for keeping us posted.

    When I can finally get my scope out, I plan to do a shootout with the following eyepieces:

    * 6mm plossl from the Celestron eyepiece kit
    * 6.5mm Meade series 5000 HD-60
    * 5mm University Optics Abbe Ortho

    Yeah, there is humor in that. But it should be helpful for those who don't understand eyepieces it should prove a useful comparison.

    BTW, I hope Skaven starts a new thread for doing the eyepiece review.
