    Smile The Delos Has Landed

    Part 1:

Today, I received my 10mm Delos that I purchased from Highpoint Scientific. The fiberboard box arrived on time via USPS priority mail, completely free from damage. The EP was sufficiently encased in bubble wrap and firmly packaged with styrofoam peanuts to prevent any movement while in transportation. Underneath the bubble wrap was TVs signature black box looking as it did the day it came off the assembly line. Surprisingly, upon opening the box, I noticed the form fitted foam with digit cut outs, so unlike other TV EPs which came to me protected only in bubble wrap. Within the form fitted casing, the 10mm Delos was placed in a thick layered plastic bag, which also included the sticker, directions and both end caps.

    Part 2:

As I grabbed the EP from the box, I was surprised to feel that it didn’t weigh as much as I thought it would. Perhaps because of the online photos, I sensed it would feel as hefty as the 35mm Panoptic I previously owned but not so. To my surprise, it felt more along the lines of my old 27mm Panoptic, +/- a couple ounces I reckon. According to the TV web site, the 10mm Delos weighs in at 0.9 lbs.

Aesthetics are appealing to the eye and touch. The traditional black anodized body with the “double-double” TV green stripes boldly stands out in contrast to the EP’s 1.25” chrome barrel. Mid body, between the comfortable double grip rings, in bold stamp reads TV 10mm Delos, opposite, Taiwan ROC. The EP fold down rubber eye cup is very soft and pliable with both end caps firmly seated, reducing the potential for loss.

Cool looking EP. I just got in from watching Ganymede exit occultation behind Jupiter in my 10mm Ethos. Very happy with my Televue EP.

    Part 3:

At first glance, the adjustable twist lock mechanism is smooth and easy to operate. It only takes a fraction of a twist to unlock, adjust the barrel height to your preferred ER, and then twist to lock into place. I twisted perhaps 1 full turn and this was overkill IMO. I’m not sure if anything bad will happen if you go any farther but I will not be the first individual to find out. Like I said, it only requires a fraction of a twist to unlock/lock. Evident is the superb quality of craftsmanship that went into its design. Similar to the Radian line, the adjustable barrel is perfected, very well balance of smoothness, yet firm.

The eye lens is measured at 35mm in diameter and it is most definitely a large one. For those of you with Hyperions, the Delos eye lens is similar in size, which I really took a liking to. As I looked through the eye lens, I still had plenty of clearance between my eye lashes (yes, I have long beautiful eyelashes...so I'm told) and the rubber cup folded down before I could no longer see the field stop. This alone states to me that the potential for ER is great for those who require it.

    Part 4:

The ergonomics is strong with this one, the size and feel of the EP is natural in my hand. But until I actually insert it into my diagonal, will we see what lies beneath the beauty of it all. Today has been a very long day. I stayed up late last night posting astro music in the community forum. Woke up early, exercised for 1.5 hours, took the kid to school, and attended a 2 hour meeting, directly participated in a 4 hour retirement ceremony, immediately followed by babysitting approximately 50 kids at a holiday party for another 4 hours. IOW, I am dog tired. Since the weather is currently bad, I’ll do a visual on a line of targets and report on the Delos performance tomorrow, weather permitting. So, for the meantime, I have taken the last couple of pics showing size comparison between the 19/24mm Panoptics and the Delos. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. BTW, I’m by no way a leading authority on optics. These are my opinions and mine alone. So please refrain from asking some crazy high tech stuff. I only made it to the 9th grade in case you didn’t know. Thanks and enjoy. Clear skies yall!
