Default Tempted to buy Meade Zoom

Although I have a Celestron zoom, I'm not really happy with it on my PST. Checking the forums I came across the Meade zoom - it never occurred to me to consider it,

Anyone Have the Meade 8-24mm Zoom EP?

It's gotta be better than my Celestron & not as expensive as a Baader zoom.

    Any comments???

Interesting. I was going to save up and get the Baader Hyperion. Since they both have 7 elements and it seems rate very closely and the Meade is about half the price. I may just consider that one instead.

Thanks for the thread and bringing this to my attention!

I have been rather surprised at the lack of comment regarding the Meade 8-24 zoom.

I have pretty much settled on it and will probably be getting one in a week or so (after Payday ).

I'll let you know what I think when I get one!

Just read on telescopes.com. The Meade Zoom is not parfocal.

    While the Baadar Zoom is.

I'm guessing that is the reason for the difference in cost.

I knew I'd read another article elsewhere here

Should I buy a zoom eyepiece?

And my Celestron isn't exactly 100% parfocal, I usually have to a bit of refocusing when I get down towards 8mm.

This Meade optically seems to be really close to the Baader for a lot less $$$ and hopefully it'll be MUCH better in my PST than the Celestron......

    Hi
The Meade came out top of zoom eyepieces in a S@N group test (that included the Baader). So I would say it was a good bet.

    Just ordered it

Oddly enough I'm going to get a free pair to Explore Scientific Bresser Hunter Series 10x50 Bino's for FREE with them. Oh well, it's time to replace my very old Bushnell 10x50 binos since the price is right

Where ever you order it from are they still offering free binos? I would definitely like to upgrade my 7x35 Bushnell to 10x50s and I too am in the market for a zoom ep.
