    Default XT8 EP's

As most of you know I have the Orion XT8. I would like to know of the members who have an XT8 as well what the best EP's would be. Iam looking for the middle of the road ep's. Telviews are nice Iam sure but budget dosent warrant too mush $$$. I mention this because it seems that even orion boast that thier ep's will work on many scopes. But if you try using some of them like lets say the Q70's they will work but you need to pull the ep out maybe 1/4 or so for it to work. My stock ep that came with the xt8 I just put it into the focuser no prob. A friend of mine let me borrow some of his ep's he had they were Meades. They just seemed to be not as clear as my stock ep when looking at say M42. Iam just looking for a few ep's to add that will give me a good look star hopping. Iam going to get a barlow that should improve my looking with my stock 25mm. Maybe this is a dumb question. But there should be a group of ep's that work well with the xt8. Thanks. Just a nubee trying to figure things out....

No expert here, but Joe Laulima recommended a Hyperion Aspheric 31 EP for my XT8 & I have been very happy with it. I have a friend that has an XT10 & she ordered one after looking through mine with this EP. It has a wide FOV compared to my other EP's (72 degrees) & the image is more clear with better image to the edge. I have read that the Dobs really can improve quite a bit with higher quality EP's. (Less $ for the scope but spend more on EP's) anyone correct me if I am blathering

There you have it, straight up from another XT8 owner who is happy with the Hyperion Aspheric 31mm, I too have one of these jewels and like it a lot! They are very sharp, bright, contrasty and the view is very crisp! The fixed focal length Hyperions of shorter focal lengths should also do well with your XT8, have come across many Dob owners who are very happy using Hyperions with their Dobs, and the price won't break the bank either.

Hyperion Zoom MKIII works great in 2" and 1.25" mode with no need to adjust like the Q70 32MM. The zoom also barlows really nice. I still also use the Orion 25MM that came with the XT8 Classic. I have owned the 9MM & 15MM Orion Expanse and enjoyed the 15MM (sold both to help move up to the zoom). This set up works great for me and I am also no expert, I have had my XT for about 5 months now. It is nice just taking out 2 eyepieces.

Will second, the Hyperion 8-24mm is a very good suggestion too!

Sound's like a good plan. I like the idea of having just a couple EP's to use. Thanks for all the Help....

I have a lot of luck with the new Orion line of EP's... The new "Highlight" EP's are really sharp, and offer great views, as well.
