    Funny post

The new Mark III Hyperion zoom is just as good, if not better than its predecessor, the Hyperion II zoom (which I both have) with lots of improvements on the latest model III. If one is coming from the stock plossls that came with a new scope, the difference will readily be apparent - sharper, brighter with excellent light transmission, more contrast, and a much wider apparent field of view - around 70+ degrees @ 8mm, drift tested/documented (published AFOV is 68-deg) vs. 52-degrees of the plossls, a very noticeable difference for the better, and thus the Hyperion zoom has an immersive feel and view which the plossls do not possess. But you don't have to take my word for it, it has the distinction of being one of the few select "Gear of the Year 2009" in another forum with a whole lot of owners voting for it as such, as well as one of Astronomy magazine's "Star Products 2010" by astro equipment expert/educator Phil Harrington (see Sept 2010 issue of Astronomy magazine) who describes the Hyperion zoom as "premium-quality zoom eyepieces that produce exceptional images."

    Best,

    Hernando

    Hernando,

    Thank You for the comparison!

I had looked at your thread several times but had always hit the pages where there were not references to the Zoom.

Last night I read all 129 pages, very informative and I enjoyed all the Great Pictures from around the world!!! Learned a lot in the process. I am convinced I ordered one last night!

How did the experiment with the Neximage work out, did it coupled with the zoom give good results?

    Thanks Again!!!

    Neil

So Neil, I started reading through the thread, but it is quite long as you indicated. Any highlights you can share? Obviously you were impressed enough to vote with your dollar. After my research, my instinct was to order the Hyperion, but I thought that I could get a good start with the Celestron, learn something, and then upgrade later.

    Sandy,

Hernando has done a lot work with the Mark II and with his great eyepiece collection has a pretty good opportunity to evaluate and compare. It seems that the Mark III reviews else where may have been tainted by a defective unit that does not seem to be reflective of the quality of the newer version.

    Key points:

    Brightness
    Contrast
    Sharpness
    Larger FOV
    Edge Sharpness
Like the idea that with T adapter you can attach DLSR

Sandy, I have gotten a lot of use from my Celestron Zoom, Matter fact I just got finished cleaning it as one of the last last kids to look through it Thursday night put a fingerprint right in the middle It will remain in my set for just that reason.

The Baader will be my most expensive eyepiece and will give me an opportunity to see if I can tell the difference. I am lucking out in a way because Telescopes.com is going to let me return a couple of accessories that I had purchased but cannot use thus I am going to be only out an additional $75.

Yes the Celestron GLP arrived and was installed this morning. The disadvantage is that it will have to be aligned at night... Hope I have clear skies... but it sounds like the clouds that come with a new accessory purchase may intervene. In the house it looks plenty bright and of solid construction. The off/on function seemed stiff at first but after exercising it... it feels good now!!!

I will give you an update after I get it aligned and tested!

    Neil
