Default Anyone ever build Eyepieces useing Surplus Shed optics sets?

I came across this site- Eyepieces/Sets - Surplus Shed

and they have alot of Eye piece optics sets that you put into your own barrel, cheap, or oddbal eyepieces from other things. I Like building things, and I figure it could be fun to make my own " Darksky brand" eyepieces. I'm not a brand hound, and I just want ok quality ones, i dont need naglers or expencive name brand plossls.

No but I bought several Paul Rini eyepieces from them when Paul was still making them by hand.

If you are looking for a good "cheap" eyepiece investigate the GSO Superview line of eyepieces.

I think the Gary Russell optics qualify as surplus lens optics.

He makes many wide view up to 80mm made with Japanese manufactured lenses.
If you don't mind an imperfect barrel he has some demo pieces as well.

I purchased a 41mm RKE 2" eyepiece last week. Haven't had a chance to try it out due to weather and schedules. I have 3 nights this week scheduled for viewing and will post a viewing report after a successful night. This is my first 2" eyepiece so it will be a different experience for me.

    This thread is very old!

Also read through this post to see why we discourage Necro posting:Necro-Posting, and why we discourage it...
We do however encourage you to start new discussions in a fresh thread on the topic.
