Default Anyone know about these EP's?

Does anyone know anything about these EP's. They look like a good deal. Good long eye relief and are supposed to be good for a fast scope.

If I am not mistaken, they are the same as the Zhumell Z planetaries: same focal lengths (3, 5, 6, 9, 12.5, 14.5, 18mm's), same specs (55-deg AFOV, 20mm eye relief) and appearance:

Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces - Telescope Eyepieces at Telescopes

If so, they're supposed to be very good, see 43 reviews here:

    Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces Reviews | 43 reviews | Buzzillions.com.

Of the mostly positive reviews, there is one that talks about performance in a fast scope:

12.5 mm - Long eye relief and no blackout/kidney beaning make it very comfortable. Contrast and on-axis sharpness good. Off-axis sharpness good at f10, but degrades quickly in fast(f4.7)scope.
    Hope this helps.

    Best,

    Hernando

Thanks Hernando, they look like a nice EP but I thought I read somewhere that they werer good for a fast focal length. The price was good so I thought maybe a good deal for mine.

That's consistent; have poured through hundreds, maybe thousand posts about EP's and there are many contradictions really because of the various factors affecting one's assessment of the performance of an EP, (it's a very personal matter) like tolerance for aberrations, age, experience, and the state of the very eyes looking through, ability to adjust or not to field curvature or astigmatism and its varying degrees, which may be inherent in the scopes being used, etc. - all these come into play and disparate results are not surprising and common. And there's no right or wrong conclusion, it's the individual way the eyes peering at the lens see it and say so.

So let that one comment not discourage you from these fine EP's, they've been favorably compared to the Televue Radian (same 20mm eye relief) that for the price, the former are winners.

    Hernando

Thanks Hernando, boy you really do know your eyepieces. I do fail to understand how they can charge such different prices just because of a name change, stupid really.

I have heard nothing but good about Zhumell, so I may be looking in to them more.

    Zhumell Z 14.5mm=129.99$
    Orion Edge on 14.5mm=105.95$
    Solar Sytem 14.55mm=89.95$

This is just checking quick and these are all the same eyepiece(as stated above and some web digging)

I think I remember Andy saying that the GSO were a Televue(or comparable). Obviously it really pays to do some homework before you buy an EP, unless you are more into name brands then it won't matter.

The Zhumell Z planetary 14.5mm goes for $59.98 here:

Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces - Telescope Eyepieces at Telescopes

Look for a discount code online for a 10% discount to further reduce the price to around $54.

Go for an EP brand that has a good reputation because even if the EP's look the same from the outside, the internals of no-name brands may not necessarily be identical or of the same quality; it's even possible that the cheap alternatives are rejects which found their way into the gray market and are being sold at dirt cheap prices.

    Best,

    Hernando

VZ3292 is a 10% discount code for Zhumell products which I recently used and it worked - enter it in the order form. Not sure if it is still valid, but you can try.

Thanks Hernando I would not of thought about that at all. But of the eyepieces I have been looking at they seem to be the best so far,and if I stick with Zhumell instead of the Solar Sytem..oh well.

No problem, my pleasure, thanks too.
Have read post saying the EP's received (2) were likely rejects, they had scratches on the eyelens and had 'em returned/refunded promptly; at least that site offers protection/guarantee for transactions made within its system.

Just trying to share my experience with EP's, and this is a general statement for those about to get some, for once, try to avoid getting the cheapest that can be had - been there, done that; eventually the el cheapo's get replaced and in the end it would just have been cheaper to have gotten the more expensive quality EP in the 1st place.. just food for thought, thanks.

    Hernando
