Default 1 1/4" Eyepiece Holder for Meade Polaris 114EQ-D

I have a Polaris 114EQ-D telescope, made by meade, that has a screw-in 0.965" eyepiece holder. I am looking to replace this with a screw-in 1 1/4" eyepiece holder. However, there is nothing available from Meade to do this, there is no formal documentation on the width of the current screw-in eyepiece holder, and I am not sure exactly how to measure it manually.

From the manual measurements I have done, it seems to be about a 34-37 mm opening. I did find the Vixen 3720 that fits 36.4mm threaded adapters (sorry, I can't post links yet, but it is easy to find via google). How do I get any confidence this will actually work? Does anyone out there know the proper way to measure? (i.e.: peak of interior threads, valley of interior threads).

Also, can I assume an across-the-board standard for thread density?

I don't have any 1-1/4" eyepieces yet, they're in the mail. I also bought a screw-in piece that will probably fit. We'll see when it arrives. If not, I only wasted $30. Time will tell. The opening in the focuser is a bit larger than 1-1/4". Just placing the eyepieces in the hole would probably not be an adequate solution, especially if I want to tilt the scope with the eyepiece pointed down so my children can see through it.

    Default Did it work

Hey I have the same telescope with same issue. Did the adaptor you purchase work out for you?

It's been a while, but I think it did. I mean, I can swear to you that I do have an eyepiece mount installed that works with 1 1/4" eyepieces in there... and that I don't remember there being any major problems.... Looking through my e-mail, I found an order from OpticsPlanet with the following item:

    Vixen EA 36.4mm to 1-1/4" 3720 1 VI-TA-AV-EA-3720 $24.95 Bundle sale = none Variant = VI-TA-AV-EA-3720

That's probably what solved my problem. From recollection, this replaced the pre-existing hardware: I actually had to unscrew the existing eyepiece holder and replace it with this screw-in piece.

    Default Thanks!

Thanks man. I seen that others used the vixen screw on adaptor. I will order the same and be able to use the 1.25".
Tried to get info from Meade tech support directly. Although responsive they weren't helpful at all, couldn't even suggest a replacement focuser. Thanks again man! Greatly appreciated.

There are adapters that CONVERT the .965 hole to a 1.25 inch hole---- BUT the light path remains .965 inches so you gain nothing.

The only solution is to replace the entire focuser with a 1.25 inch size focuser.

the meade 114 EQ actually has a 2" light path. the 2" tube for the focuser and eyepiece has a top that screws off and on to change the eyepiece holder from .965 to 1.25 to even 2". It IS a 2" focuser that has a .965 eyepiece holder on it, which can be changed.

Thanks for that input unintent. Do you know of any vendor that supplies the needed hardware to get the 2" eyepiece holder (or whatever the right term is) to turn this thing into a 2" native scope? If so, got a link?

I plan to get a new 2" scope and it would be nice if all the eyepieces worked on both scopes.

If you actually have a 2 inch focuser-- then a 2 inch eyepiece should slide right in.
