    Default Eyepiece Case

Decided to put together a case for my eyepieces. Still have room for a Siebert or Hyperion 36mm for widefield and couple UO Orthos for doubles. (Planned future acquisitions.) Best part? Except for hardware it was leftover pieces from other projects.

Nice! I'd like to make a case like that for my eyepieces. Right now they're just wrapped up in bubble wrap in a wooden box. Where did you get the foam you used, and how did you make the cutouts for the individual EPs?

Outstanding, Lenbo! Are the sides Honduras Mahogany? What is the dark detail wood?

I especially like the handle, and your treatment of the dado at the top corners.

Let me guess, the rift-cut oak was left over from the table project.

Thanks folks. My daughter picked up the foam in a JoAnnes store. They specialize in materials and all kinds of stuff for the home. Not sure if it is local or a chain store though. I just carefully cut straight down about a inch and half and then cut across from both sides on an angle. Eyepieces fit like a glove.

Yes WW it was left over from the furniture project. I made mission style chairs and tables for our living room. I had a small board of quartersawn oak with good figure left over. I ended up resawing it to get enough wood for the front and back as well as the panel in the top. The ends are actually some air dried cherry. Same for the walnut decorations. Salvaged some from a local guy with a bandmill. Would probably have gone to the firewood pile. OK for small things but not for bigger projects. It's fun combining my hobbies.

Lovely. Perhaps you could make some more eyepiece money by making some of these and selling them to those of us who are wood working challenged.

Len, I wouldn't mind seeing some more pictures of the furniture.

The little walnut dutchmen at the top corners of the eyepiece case; were they planned from the start? Did you draw the project up first, or just get it together in your head and have at it?

I would say that a one off would be worth 800ish. Build 100, and you could probably sell them for 350-400.
