Default Telescope bags for Meade line of Infinity and Polaris telescopes now available

Good news for owners of Meade Infinity and Polaris line of entry-level telescopes - Meade has made available carry-bags for these telescopes:

Telescope Bags - Accessories - Products

For storage and/or transporting these scopes to darker sky sites. Probably good for other non-Meade small telescopes as well.

I just ordered two of them - one for my Polaris 114EQ and another for one of my non-Meade telescopes.

The Meade telescope bags arrived. I bought one made for the Polaris 114 and the other one made for the Polaris 127/130:

I was able to fit my Polaris 114 - OTA, mount and accessories - into the bag made specifically for the 114:

With the Polaris 127/130 bag, I was able to fit my Celestron Omni XLT 150 (5.9" F/5 Newtonian with CG4 EQ mount) into it:

The counterweight for the Omni CG4 mount however, makes the bag too heavy to carry on my shoulder, so it'll be in a backpack. The 114EQ counterweight can be included in the Polaris 114 bag with no problem.

The Meade bags are rectangular shaped, compared to the triangular shaped Orion bags. So the OTA and mount/tripod fits more easily in a shorter length bag than an Orion bag of the same or slightly larger size. Because the straps are shorter, I'm able to sling both Meade bags on my shoulder closer to my body, making them easier to carry than the Orion bags.

At $39.99, each of these bags are less than half the price of the Orion bags. Whether they are as durable remains to be seen.
    10538 and bladekeeper like this.
