Default Case alternative for the nexstar case

At some point I will want to venture into less light poluted areas withour worrying about banging my 6se around. Weather permitting I will probably take it out in the country this weekend and plan on wrapping it up in a blanket and strapping it in with a seatbelt. Not the ideal solution but for a shourt 30 minute trip from the house its my only real option. I have a big camera case that i thought would work with some modification but the 6 in tube is a little big, i would have to remove most of the padding, and i would need to remove it from the mount which would leave the mount unprotected. The NexStar case is an obvious choice for a little over 220 $ as it was designed for this line of telescope. I am wondering if there is a better option for the same price and features? A less expensive case that would work just as well?

That's about the size of a carry-on suitcase, do you have one of those handy? Just fill the inside with foam, bubble wrap, or a towel and you should be good to go.

I don't know about the 6SE but with the 4SE or 5SE you can wrap the shipping foam with a highquality duct tape and have an excellent, durable, carrying. case

    NexStar case Case for NexStar 4/5/6 & 8" OTAs [item # 94003]
I have good news and bad news.

Bad news first. The case list price is $220.

Now the good news. Amazon has 15 left (Celestron part # 94003) for $179 with free shipping if you have prime. I have one of these and am very happy with it. It is well made and protects the OTA really well. The second compartment has many pockets for other items. I store my Rigel, power chord, SkySyncGPS and red light flashlight in there. And there is more room. For me it was worth protecting my 8SE investment. I had to get a storage container from Lowes to store the arm. Your 6SE and arm will fit in this case. For the tripod I got a Celestron Nexstar 60/80 soft carrying case 302160 from ebay. They are $29. Just search for 302160 it is the first items you will see.

have you looked at using a foot locker with padding? Celestron's used to come shipped in the foot lockers. I picked one up for $20 a few months back.

What I have done of late? Trot to Walmart and find a storage container (I use a nice Sterilite footlocker style plastic box for my Edge 800 OTA). It's easy enough to find something that will fit the foam your scope came packed in, may be with a little additional foam padding. I have used "cases" like this for years with great success.

I use the Sirius soft case for my Nester 8se which allows for the tube to stay attached to the mount. I know they make one for the 6se but I believe you need to use your original foam packaging.

Here is a thread with some pics I took when I first received it.
    Storage/Transport case for 8se

All-in-all I think it is a great case and super light. If they make one you can use I would highly recommend it.
