    Default Astronomical Accessory Box

    Hi everyone!

I'm new around here and was just wanting some advice really.

I'm very new to this Astronomy business.. it all started when my Son went to University to study Physics and then he decided to buy me a SkyWatcher for my birthday this year.

I've got tonnes of eye pieces and filters laying around and don't want them to get damaged.

What does everyone use to put their kit in??

I sort of wanted a wooden box because i'm old fashioned.

I found this on eBay and wondered if anyone has had any experience with the seller?

    Link below;

    Thanks,

    Regards

    Bill.

First welcome to the forum. On the seller I've got no info.,but the box looks nice. But there is the Ebay protection plan so it should be OK.

    Welcome to the forum!

I built myself a wooden box for my eyepieces, out of 3/8" plywood. I probably should have used 1/4", but I tend to over-engineer everything.

The one in your link looks good. I have no information on the seller.

Hi, Bill and welcome to the forum.

I know you're looking for a wooden case, but just for a comparison, here's the case that I use: Zeikos Inc.

It's big enough to fit all of this stuff comfortably:

    • ES82 30mm
    • ES82 18mm
    • ES100 9mm
    • 5x 1.25" eyepieces
    • Telrad
    • 2" barlow
    • laser collimator
    • 4x 2" filter cases

The pluck-foam makes it easy to build the case design like you want.

In my opinion, when it comes to a case, bigger is better. I've got enough stuff to pack in the car when I head to my dark sky site -- I'd much rather lug down one big case than 2 or 3 smaller ones.

    This is what I use...
    http://www.shoplet.com/Waterloo-Plas...PTLS797HP55421
I have the optional wheels on mine.. but have found I never use them so far.
Amazon has a nice image here of the two trays and lid etc. but not a nice price
Amazon.com: CRL Sit/Stand/Tote With Caddy by CR Laurence: Home Improvement

It holds 1.25-2 inch EPs in the top tray.. have to move down EPs with larger cases into the middle with the controller etc. Then I put dew straps, power cords etc in the lower bin area.
I lined my top tray with Fleece (you can see the red) to reduce sliding and rattling.
    I have two of these

I'm looking at modifying some of my old cigar boxes for protection and toting of my eyepieces (I have room in my JMI case for my scope, but I suspect I'll run out soon.....)
