Lightbulb using a spotting scope as a finder scope

after a night under the stars I started thinking about how to upgrade my meade #826 and I found a mount on the front of it for something (I just ignored it at first)so I looked at it and found a camera could fit on it and so can my spotting scope so I put the spotting scope on it and I was amazed with how accurate it is so I sudjest that if you have a high power telescope use a spotting scope in combination with it it will save a lot of time looking for objects in the sky.

That is a great idea, it is usually alot better than the one that comes with it! I have a spotting scope and sometimes that's all I use instead of getting out the ole 8".

The last clear night we had I was trying my hand at doubles - the closer the better. I was using my AR152 with a 5 mm ep (about 200x). I had my st80 sitting on top with a 20 mm ep and was using that as a finder (20x). Worked great. I imagine a finder scope would work very well, especially with a moderate power zoom ep on it.

I'm seriously considering getting an illuminated reticule ep for that little telescope.

If it works well then by all means use is. Screw the haters that will discount the cheap and clever solution because they had to buy their way to the same conclusion. Good job using your head to improve your kit without spending extra money.

In the beginning I used my Barska spotting scope as a finder and was amazed at how well it worked. The only problem I had was that since it was not collimatable, I couldn't aim exactly to the same point as the main OTA. Other than that I love it!
