    Default Making a storage case?

So I've been searching for a case to store all my accessories - flashlights, eyepieces, star charts etc... in one easy to carry package.

I just want a good sturdy case with a handle that's large enough to carry all my stuff, but isn't super expensive. Any suggestions on where to get one? Also, I need to buy sheets of foam which I will cut out the profile of the shapes of the items I'm putting in the case - what kind of foam should I use?

Thanks, I know about those but they are a little expensive for me. I'm looking for something thats about as large as the largest size they have, but for around $30. Also I'd like to make it custom so I can design it to fit what I want.

I use the 9.00 stanley toolboxes at wal mart and cut foam the way I want it. The only cutting I did with my foam was for the diagonal, I buy bolt cases for all my eyepieces so that the cases lay in the toolbox on top of the foam.

I have some pictures in my public album if you want to take a look.

These are some of the cheapest ready to go pluck foam cases made, the better quality ones run about $100 more. You can always try Lowes or Home Depot for plastic tool box cases and foam you can cut yourself.

Sometimes they are on sale for $25. You can remove the tool holder panel on the lid but I kept it on mine to hold flashlights, pen, tools, etc. The botton has a block of square "pluck" type foam.

Wal mart has a 2-pistol case with pluck foam in the sporting goods dept for $10. It's plenty wide and deep enough. I can fit a polaris mount head in one with room for shaft and a counter weight.

"So I've been searching for a case to store all my accessories - flashlights, eyepieces, star charts etc... in one easy to carry package."

The widest assortments of shapes and sizes I've seen can be found at Cabela's sport centers. Every store I've been in has a department where they sell off blemished or damaged items often for as little as 10% of the original price.

I can easily make a case any size & shape I want using cored fiberglass panels covered in naugahyde. However, by the time I factor in my labor, materials and the time spent, I'm better off with a factory made one.
