    Default SkiFi Wireless Telescope Control!

    Lovin' this little gadget!

I called Carina Software and they shipped the SkiFi right out, I plugged it in and less than a minute, it was connected and working. That was with my iPad, I tried with my iPhone, and although it connected, I couldnt get it, to work correctly. I contacted Carina, and he is working on a solution now for me now.

I've been using the SkyVoyager app on my iPhone for some time, and love it. $15. Its by far the best app of all the astronomy apps I've bought.

    SkyVoyager

I bought the expansion pack for it as well, and that was great. It adds 2.5 million stars to the 12th Mag. 5$

    Expansion Pack

Here is a cheesy video of my time with it and how cool it works! (pay no attention to my messy back yard.)

Thanks for the review on this. There goes another 200 bucks

I have an iPad and just am addicted to the touch/multitouch technology. That app looks incredible.

While it is VERY possible to control a telescope using a small device like a phone the tiny screen creates a less than ideal experience.

Just not a lot of room to roam around. An Ipad would be just fine-- or a standard laptop. While you can do this I personally have found it less than satisfying because of the screen size. Although the application can remove some offending CABLE connections.

However a Bluetooth connection from a laptop to the hand controller removes all cables. This is what I use to control the scope wirelessly. I also use a small AcerOne netbook with the built in 9 cell battery upgrade. The netbook will run about 10+ hours on the internal battery. (running XP service pack 3) The kids think it's COOL when you click the screen and the scope slews 10 feet away from the laptop.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Well, I will say this...last night at a club outreach event at a local community college the students were oooohing and aaahhing over my iPad and GoSkyWatch. A vew or more people actually bought and downloaded the app on the spot and became more immersed in the experience because they were using it while waiting in line for their turn at the next scope. They would look in the eyepiece then stand next to the scope pointing their device at the same angle in the sky as the scope, I guess verifying what they were looking at.

The iDevices really resonate with that generation.

Even with GoSkyWatch's latest update, its still a toy app compared to SkySafari.
