Newbie here. As a Portlander, I am lucky enough to have the path of totality passing just a few miles outside of town. I'll take my bicycle into the countryside to avoid the traffic jams people are predicting. And pretty sure I'm in the minority here, but I plan on just eyeballing the eclipse. Maybe I'll have a fancy photography rig when the next one comes. (Wait, maybe I will be pushing up daisies by then.)

Anyway, what a cool event. The buzz about it reminds me of Halley's Comet when I was ten.

I plan on eyeballing the eclipse as well while the cameras do their thing. I've got a Raspberry Pi coming with the intent of having it control both cameras and varying the exposure times to capture both very short and longer exposures to combine after I get home. Since the 450D (modded) and 1100D (non-modded) use the same sensor with the same output image size I can combine images from both as needed to produce some nice HDR images, and if I get the 450D modded for monochrome the final results should be very nice (fingers crossed).

As of now we are going to be at the East Hills Shopping Center parking lot in St. Joseph, MO. My wife does not like the heat and being at an air-conditioned mall may be very helpful. It looks like a couple of AF'ers will be at the St. Joe Menards store so if the heat is not too bad maybe we will head there instead.

This is definitely going to be exciting and interesting. Too bad I'm in San Francisco and won't see it at 100% but will get to witness a lot of it and that's ok. I'll be working so it's not like I could be out with the scope or anything. My relatives in Nebraska will get the 100% effect though. Lucky them.

The big day is closing in. I will be at my sister's house in western North Carolina. Heading up on Saturday to hopefully beat any traffic. Will be bringing my ETX80 equipped with a solar filter to enjoy the view. Can hardly wait. Just hope the weather is good..

Planning on being in the vicinity on Hemingford, Nebraska. I will be coming down from Brandon, Manitoba. Will be making a nice holiday out of it. Going to spend some time in Rapid City before heading to Hemingford.

According to an online MSN survey 48% of respondents will go, 18% is not sure. So, 160 million people could be descending on that narrow strip.
