You're a little non-specific here. Where? When? Scientists are always keeping their eyes on stellar nurseries (huge gas clouds where stars form), but it takes an awfully long time for a star to coalesce from a gas cloud to a star--millions of years.
If you mean that they saw one ignite, then that would be really really something. I have not heard of that. Please elaborate.
