Default The Risk of Apollo Missions

"In what may have been the largest gathering of Apollo astronauts in one place this year, a group of the intrepid explorers gathered for the 115th Explorers Club Annual Dinner on March 16 to receive medals of exploration and look back on their epic missions": https://www.space.com/apollo-astrona...n=20190323-sdc.

The group included Walt Cunningham (Apollo 7); Rusty Schweickart (Apollo 9); Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins (Apollo 11); Fred Haise (Apollo 13); Al Worden (Apollo 15); Charlie Duke (Apollo 16); and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17).

    Some interesting stories!

Thanks Dave, I'm always interested in anything to do with the early space programs, especially Apollo because I remember those flights the best.

I remember my father working Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. My father did the redesign of the nozzle for the Service Module main engine after discovering a critical flaw in the first design... It was quite a battle to get it to a critical design review and the military stepped in to force the review and it turned out Dad was right... I remember him bringing home all the old Apollo literature for me and waking me up at all hours of the day and night to watch the missions. I remember when Apollo 13 happened, he was gone for days because they had him there at work because of the nature of the damage to the Service Module - They were afraid to even fire that engine and rightly so... Nice to see all these astronauts enjoying the fruits of their labors now - A lot of folks on the ground worked hard to safely get them there and home ;>)

Lots of incredible documentaries on YouTube about the missions. Never get tired of watching them. The guys that did those missions are a breed of a different type.
