    Default Apollo 8 Launches!!

    Fifty years ago today: https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/c...h-into-history.

And on 24 December, 50 years ago, the crew became the first humans to enter Lunar orbit: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard...8-the-far-side!

For those of us old enough to remember, what a treat watching all the news coverage!!!

I remember being glued to the television as the Apollo 8 astronauts transmitted their video from Lunar orbit. I'm still wowed just remembering it.

I also remember my Dad being all frustrated that we were watching the TV instead of getting on with our Christmas Eve celebration. This major historic event was lost on him. Sigh!

One of my earliest memories, and I don't remember much from early childhood.

But I was supposed to have a Jet Pack, and a Hover Car by now!

That amazing "Earthrise" photograph: https://www.nasa.gov/centers/marshal...c-24-1968.html that certainly provided a new perspective on the "Good Earth".

Awesome Dave, thank you! Speaking of things Lunar, I just noticed a bright light outside. Could it be? Yes! The clouds have parted and the Moon is up. I'm off!!

    Thanks again, Dave.

Well, that was short lived. By the time I grabbed my reftactor and made it outside, the clouds had rolled in obscuring the Moon. I got a couple very small openings, then everything went black.

Sorry Dave, I didn't mean to get offtrack. I was overwhelmed with the prospect of actually being able to do some observing for a change.
