Just read an article on this comet 67P, sounds interesting. The article said it will probably not be observable with the naked eye, but I wonder about through a scope. Has anyone mentioned that? This is almost as big as when we landed on Mars with the rover. Is the USA involved much with ESA or is the USA developing a private space agency that will compete with ESA? I really don't follow space exploration so if this is a stupid question, let me have it....

You can read about it first hand at the ESA Space site: Space in Videos - 2014 - 08 - Rosetta at comet: First images & science results

First images are coming in right now.

It needs to get an accurate calculation of the comet's mass with some tricky maneuvering required before it can establish it's orbit.

It's amazing the comet has enough mass to allow anything to orbit!

Yes, technically, it is not yet in orbit. It is just manoeuvering in the vicinity of the comet, firing its thrusters to maintain position and move around it. It will be a while before it can establish an actual gravitationally-bound orbit.
