    Lj3d....

I can appreciate your take on the 'reasonable mix of human and robotic exploration of space'.
But...based on my previous comments I still think that (at this time) incorporating the human element of space travel would diminish the robotic probe funds/technology which is much more realistic....for now.

In my ignorance...what I'm still a bit baffled by is that we still don't some ice samples to determine any bio aspects of Mars.
    I know...it's complicated.
And yes...'would be one of the greatest discoveries of the human race'.

Thanks to all who've chimed in here.

Have I mentioned I love this stuff.

Whew....thanks for not roasting me on my opinion.

    Yes...I agree.
I live and breath these cosmic mysteries but have no illusions about human capacity/ability for space travel.
The probes can provide us the knowledge we desire and it's doable providing funding and resources are justified and available.

These discussions sure get the neurons firing but, in my eternal dismay, I still have no cosmic epiphanies to impart to anyone....I'm a failure.

EDIT: you're in New York....at lunch or take the day off for more important like we're discussing?

Yup, I'm about 30 min north of NY City.

I could take a month off, and it STILL wouldn't be enough time for me!

At this point, we are diminishing robotic missions anyway as evidenced by the recent pullout from the Euromars mission. America seems to have almost totally lost the will to carry on in space.

Damn....thanks for that tidbit of depressing news about the Euromars mission.

    Haha....it makes me frown too.

Guess I'll have to come up with some ponzi scheme to finance our research and quest for stellar knowledge......will advise.

    A good eve to all....

Good luck with the ponzi scheme, maybe I should try that...but for now, I'll wait and see what the private sector is able to do.
