i know im pretty new here .... saw this interesting subject heading :-D ...

wouldnt it be easier to just download our minds onto the next Intel Chip (using wifi no doubt hahaha ) that comes out ? :-D ... and send it out to space .... then "share" the experience via facebook .... and have our skeptical non tech parents follow us on twitter ..... hehehe .......we perceive the world via electric impulses anyways ..... physical problems solved!

There is some secret testing site in some secret place testing a secret propulsion system that will allow space travel.

As far as the nature of which the universe evolved I can't except that nothing created itself. To me that would be taking a big empty box, shaking it up, and viola, a golden chicken appears. People can believe what pleases them, but I can't nor the big bang.

I look or think about the great vastness of the universe or even the intricacies of our own eye and can only accept intelligent design.

With that said everyone has what they believe to hold true, what makes them feel comfortable, and what brings them peace. So I for one will keep dreaming that I will one day see intergalactic space travel in my life time. Maybe we can even pull a Terra Nova! I love that show!

That's the principle of the improbability generator.

Intelligent design hmmm - just how high does this designer go in terms of system initiation? Bigbang? Star generation? Planetary formation? Life start? getting down and dirty and doing each species from go to whoa?

If you takeany one, then you have to reach a vertical generation that goes on infinitely - how did any entity create the big bang? Where did they come from?

    Remember 1960?
Ah - times were different. Were they better though?
Hmnn. I grew up listening to tube radio broadcasts. Didn't have a TV until 1958. In retrospect...there is something infinitely pleasing about the glow of amplifying tubes against a darkened living room wall. The smell of phenolic resins and hot tubes during the radio's operation was somehow soothing. The family sitting around listening to a radio broadcast and actually using their imagination to visualize what was transpiring orally was surrealistic. Today I have all the geek stuff..water cooled computers..Ithings..electric whatnots. Were times better.....oh hell yes. That's my story, sorry for waxing philosophically, I promise I won't do it again.

I would love to debate this, but I think it's against the forum agreement so I will refrainčśť

On the other hand we all have our ideologies and belief systems. Sometimes is just better not to get involved in disscussions that may lead to madness or worst yet anger managementčśü

So I propose that we just leave it at this...everyone has what they think is the right idea or belief...let's not step on toes.

With that said I can see how my quote could step on your toes. Vsorry for that, wasn't my attention

As to ever getting off this little rock, I read somewhere that the Voyagers will be a light day away in around 2050. A light DAY....

That is after travelling at 17 km/s and launched in 1977.

This is a great thread. I hope no one minds me contributing with some sci-fi fueled ideas...

Current technological advancements aside, I don't think the answer to extensive space exploration beyond our solar system lies with improved propulsion methods and the like, but rather finding a way to essentially manipulate space-time. Some posts touched on worm holes and although that seems like science-fiction, it may only seem unrealistic due to the limitations of what we know and how we understand the universe.

In time, the stuff we see in movies and video games could very well become real. Look at what humanity has accomplished in the last century alone...

I used to have a 1938 Packard that had a beautiful Zenith tube radio installed. I sent off to Zenith to get the schematics and got it working. What gorgeous sound, from an AM radio!
