Big thanks for all the comments. My way forward is to firstly see how perfect a polar alignment I can get and then take a test series of images at increasing exposure lengths to see what maximum exposure I can get unguided.

The one from ebay : "does not ship to South Africa" the one from Aliexpress : use "standard shipping" that means that at some stage the South African Post Office would have to handle it... they are totally dysfunctional so that's not an option.

PS You guys don't know how lucky are living in a 1st world country!
You can try Postbox Courier or Aramex Global Shipper.

Also, I can send the OP a PM of a guy that does international couriers also. You can WhatsApp him the link of the item you need, and he will do a quote. Reliable and trustworthy, based in Pretoria area but does national and international shipping.

I recently had good service from B&H, they shipped the item via DHL. You have to track the item and pay the import duty (basically GST). DHL sends you an e-mail with the amount and you pay them direct online. The item was released the same day and arrived at my home within 7 days.

I have been working on polar alignment when I get time. Having a fork mount and a wedge to convert it to a polar mount makes things more complicated(I think).I use two tube levels mounted on my OTA. The one I use to get my fork assembly completely level when pointing to the celestial pole. The other to get the OTA level, I then use the goto to measure my declination(29 deg 7') from level. Then the only variable that can be out is pointing south. I have been using the drift method to check that but I still gave a lot of learning to do.

Check in with Barney, he has a Meade on a wedge and might have some useful advice.

Some people don't understand why I love astronomy so much! I cannot understand why they don't!

The December pathetic cloudy weather has allowed me only 2 short outings with my new scope and mount.
Using the CGEM all star align and then polar align process a achieved a good polar align that allowed up to 60 second exposures. Anything more than that and I will need to guide.

Planning on using the ZWO 290 mini mono guide camera with the Orion 60mm guide scope. I opened a Aramex global shopper account and will use that to import it.

Let us know how it goes. Amazon also ships with Aramex and this would be great for those Amazon items that does not ship to South Africa. I used B&H shipped by DHL for one of those items but their prices are a bit higher than Amazon.
