Really enjoying sitting outside, chilling and just staring at the sky with my scope.

    Hi all

I am from Pretoria. Joined the forum a week or so ago and introduced myself then on the general introduction thread and then found this one today.

Anyway, I'm really interested in astrophotography. I haven't got a telescope or a tracking mount yet but I am busy researching the barn door mount which I hope will kick start my tracking photography. At the moment I am limited to about 2 or 3 seconds' exposure time at 200mm. I am using a Nikon D5100 with my 18-55mm and 55-200mm kit lenses.

If anyone has some advice on some beautiful objects I should check out which are fairly visible, please let me know!

Its easy to get to some of the very dark skies for most of us in an hour or less. but from the city it can still be the same issue as most other people around the world have.
Friday i wasnt even able to see spica with the naked eye untill it rose way up in the sky due to light pollution/smog
grass fires also play a big role here over autumn/winter. but from only 50 mintues out i can see the milky way clearly so we are lucky in that regard

    Hi guys,

I'm from the West rand in Johannesburg. I focus mostly on astrophotography but of late I'm struggling to get my schedule and the weather to play along...

Wish I was living near some darker skies.
    Regards,
    AstroBrandy

Hi all also just bought my first scope from Cape union mart K-Way branded 130mm reflector for R2400. I live in Brakpan and looking forward to really trying the scope out, have only looked at the moon so far, learning to use a telescope for the first time
