Hello submerbe, according to the New Zealand Astronomical Yearbook 2011 by Stardome Observatory in Auckland, there is an Astronomy Club, two actually.
One is the Tauranga Astronomical Society.
It has a new 35cm Meade LX200 ACF Telescope. There are astronomy programmes for school groups and adult groups too by the way.

Opening times: 7.30pm. On the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. The Observatory is located at the Otumoetai Sport and Recreation Club rooms in Fergusson Park off Tilby Drive, Matua, Tauranga. Meetings are on the fourth Tuesdays and features a guest speaker followed by telescope viewing if weather permits. Quarterly newsletters are published.

For the second group, it's named Tauranga U3A Astronomical Group. Meetings are held at group members' homes and with members' presentations, topical videos and discussions about astronomical issues.
