    Default baader SOLAR film....worth it?

Ive been wanting to view the sun with my Z12...Is the more exspensive baader film worth it?

    here
    Baader AstroSolar Safety Film-visual 20x29cm ASOLV-S Telescopes, Binoculars, Spotting Scopes, Microscopes, Riflescopes, Astronomical Accessories,Refractor,Reflector,Monoculars,Night Vision,Cassegrain,GPS,Optical Tubes,Digital Camera,Eyepiece,Filters,

ALSO, it says it lets the "true color" of the sun through. white. How will this look through a 12" reflector with about a 5" cut-out solar filter made?

    Any input welcome.

Mostly sun spots and granulation as well, And any planetary transits..
But to see more you have to spend quite a few $s more on a dedicated solar scope.

Well I went ahead and bought some film anyhow. Will still be cool.

Does the hole "have" to be round for the solar film on the cap I make? Id like to use the whole sheet of fil insted of half sine Ill be spending $40 bux.

Here are the 3 diff types I was thinking of going with. The first one on the left is a the traditional off axis type. Id love to make the lower type and use more of the film if possible

You could just use a small piece (half) and save the rest for the next sun project ..Binocular covers ?

I thought about it after looking at the first , and second examples of your drawings ....And reading your signature ... Besides , the first example will let in plenty of light in for the scope ...

large hole for filter will not help you. You are going to lose contrast and you do not want that.
Make filter openings as small as you can but big enough that full image of Sun is visible. Probably two holes, diagonally in opposite sides is good idea (thats what I have).

Btw, this will help you focus too because it works like a Scheiner disc (Christoph Scheiner (1573 or 1575-1650)).
