Default Solar filter for Dob usable with SCT?

Hello, have a question maybe someone can answer...

I have an 8" Orion Film Solar Filter that works fine with my Dob. A friend who has an older 8" Celestron SCT wants to borrow it. Assuming it fits snugly over the end, does that sound workable and safe? Has anyone tried it? I sent query to Orion, they never got back to me...

    Thanks!

The only difference in the white light solar filters is between ones for visual use and those for Astro Photography.
If you have one that is stopped down to 3 or 4 inches, it will work fine too.
These types of filters that go on the front of the scope and filter out 99.999% of all the energy before it ever it gets into the scope. So what type of scope they are used on doesn't matter.

A Hershel wedge or Daystar filter that goes after the optics can only be used on a Refractor. If you try and use them on Reflectors, SCT's, MCT's and other types of scopes you will have extreme amounts of solar energy in your OTA and it will melt plastic, blister paint and can even start stuff on fire.

Follow up: At our outreach event, the solar filter designed for 8" Dob worked fine with the 8" SCT, just needed some tape to keep it secure. Only problem was the sky was mostly fogged over in San Francisco. Thanks again Paul..
