I've made a DIY one for my own using an A4 sheet of Baader film.

Two circles of card the width of the OTA, with 'wings' that allow it to be (very securely) fixed in place.
Cut circular holes in the card slightly smaller than the width of the film, and cut a circle of film as large as the width allows you. then use tape to stick the film to one of the pieces of card all around the circumference, then put the other piece of card on top so the film is sandwiched between the card rings.

I've made my own for my 11 inch SCT and 102mm MCT. I have used both Baader and Seymour Solar film. We also made Soltar filters for a 8, 13 and 16 inch DOB's, 10 and 14 inch SCT's.

    1) The sun is extremely bright, so you don't need the full aperture and stopping it down is not a problem.
    2) With a white light filter you will not see prominence's or the surface churning. You will see be able to see sunspots. They will look something like this.

I built my own Baader solar filter cell years ago for my ten inch SCT I chose to make an offset mask with a hole diameter equal to the distance fomr the seconday mirror housing to the edge of the corrector plate. There is no need to make or purchase a full aperture solar filter for the larger SCTs. My filter cell was constructed form PVC sheet that was routed out with a CNC machine.

+1 for the homemade Baader filter! I've got one for my 127mm Mak, ST80 and 15x70 bins. But then I'm quite imfamous for the Sun.
