Default Coronado PST + Baader 2.5X Zoom Barlow + DSLR = Solar image???

    Hi all.

    First post.

Tried solar imaging today with PST + eyepiece projection adapter + 18 mm ortho + DSLR.

Couldn't achieve focus (best attempt attached).

In the Solar Viewing and Imaging Group (that I'm too new to join and post a reply to), TheyCallMeTJ said that using a disassembled TV 2.5 Powermate and a TV T-ring adapter allowed him to do DSLR photography with the PST.

TV setup should be very good, but also a little pricey at $250.

After a bit of searching, I found the Baader 2.5X Zoom Barlow, which is also convertible, and includes a T adapter, all for $129.

Has anyone tried using this with a PST and DSLR?

    Thanks!

    Matt

Sorry, the Baader is actually 2.25X, not 2.5X.

    Hi Wim.

No, I haven't ever had a white-light filter, and I'm just now becoming interested in photography instead of only viewing.

Your video is great! Simple=GOOD. That looks like a nice afternoon project I can do together with my kids, and a way to put my trusty old 90 f/11 to good use.

With snow in the forecast again, I guess I'll have some time to order some of that Baader film.

    Thanks!

So, I got the Baader Hyperion 2.25X Zoom Barlow and tried it today.

The short answer is: Yes, it reached focus with a normal T-ring and Canon DSLR.

First pics aren't going to win any medals (they're certainly nothing like what you see visually). But it looks promising. The sun is a little less than half of the (FF) frame height, before cropping. And there's some ISO available to trade for shutter speed, which looks like it may be necessary for a stationary mount.

We'll see how it goes next weekend...

    Clear skies.

Faster shutter, at the expense of ISO, was not helpful. Will wait for equatorial mount before trying again.

    Cheers.

From what I understand you need to capture some video and stack the frames in registax.

I have moved your thread here to the solar viewing forum where the members will be sure to have helpful advice for you.

Thanks for moving the thread! It was pretty quiet in the beginner forum.

Yes, I keep seeing posts about stacking, but know little or nothing about it. I guess I have a lot to learn.

Okay, so this is over a year later, how is it going? I have been looking at getting a Baader 2.25 zoom barlow to do some dslr photography with a PST. Did you manage to improve your shots, Olorin? To clarify, you were *not* doing eyepiece projection with the barlow, you were simply doing barlow + DSLR? (technically not prime focus, "barlow-focus"?)
