Bill - congratulations on the DMK! Exact same one that I'm getting! (Delivery date of Monday.) Sounds like John would be an asset to the group. I hope he joins.

Thanks Lou Ann. As Chuck and I discussed, it will be easier to compare notes and learn if we all have the same imager. I'm just taking the advice of them that knows.

LouAnn, you are a very sneaky lady. How long have you known about getting a DMK ???

Yes I would you old dog you, lol. I'll check into the Coronado Solar Group right away. I believe it was a response from Coronado I read sometime ago regarding the "dimming" effect from double stacking. They stated the view wasn't dimmer, just redder. In the eyes of the beholder I suppose or what you see is what you get. But if midigated by more detail then its worth it because that should translate into better images, right? I have to keep telling people (at least with my digiscope images) that you get better details visually of the sun, but that flip flops when you see what Theo produces with his PST, isn't his stuff both amazing and inspiring? Maybe us budding solar imaging buffs should chip in and fly Theo out here for a hands on workshop on solar imaging the minimalist way.

Now you and this thread have gotten me thinking about solar imaging again, especially when you mentioned you ordered a very good solar camera in the DMK 21AU04.AS. I looked into CCD imaging briefly before my astro imaging plan got sidetracked and from what I read you don't have to buy the expensive CCD camera for solar imaging and thats good news to me.

What ever dimming that there is is definitely offset by the detail that you see. Theo is our Solar Hero that's for sure. Welcome to the Coronado group John.

    There is a big theme.

Is to learn to focus the PST. I hope to know how to do it.

If you focus right the ethalon and focuser you have fantastic views.

CaK used only to capture icons from the lower chromosphere but capture phenomena that Ha can`t do it.

We see tornados before a couple of days. You know why.

Because they started to the lower chromosphere 400 km upper from the photosphere. Here is the CaK line.

CaK has a different beauty than Ha. See deeper and catch other phenomena but solar observers not preffer it.
