    Default First Solar Image

Like the title says this is a "First". Ever have one of those days, no matter what you do your one step behind all day. Today was like that for me. I usually have a look at GONG and the forecast while having coffee. Missed that today, and wasn't aware that there was some solar activity that a white light solar guy/gal can take advantage of.

My solar stuff isn't very elaborate. A $50 Canon 1100D, an old ('81) C8 and a solar filter that came with.... Thanks to Lowjiber I improved one of my shots. John ran me through a crash course of Registax6, but we only played with one image. (Not the one I am posting here) Thanks John.

This was a rushed session. Little cool down time, a filter requiring a bit of attention, a brain fart with remembering settings, and about the time I was ready the high thins threatened the whole deal. The pic posted below is not one of the better ones, at least when I look at the raw files. John re-iterated that you should run a lot of them (even if only to practice at my newbie level) to find out what I had.

Perhaps next time it will be better. Oh, I think I scrubbed the dust bunnies, first time trying that with my old PS.

You the man!!!! Congratulations on your first image, Brent.

I remember my first image and wish I had saved it. Alas, you'll have to save yours to make up for my forgetfulness.

BTW: Nice job on the bunnies.

    Thanks for posting your work!

I will NEVER under-estimate what the people that do SAP do get get their shots, let alone the time spent figuring out the post processing programs. My choice of set-up was poor (on a wooden deck) that can bounce. A light grey wall behind me. But in my defense, I was out of the wind(chill).

Frankly, there are as many challenges as night observing. I always keep i mind, solar can ruin your day IF your not careful. I probably have no business even trying it!

Okay... If you want to shoot the sun in the dark, make sure to use a lot of exposure and plenty of gain.
