Default First image of Sol - eclipse prep

I am not turning to the "light side" just yet. I did pick up a Canon 70-300 lens and a 100K ND filter in preparation for the eclipse this summer, and thought I should try it out before the actual event. This is the second time I have tried since the filter arrived. I keep looking for sunspots to make it interesting, but no such luck either time. Here is my maiden Sol image. ISO 800 1/1250 f/22 using the 60D. I will keep trying to see if I can find out what type of detail I can pull. As always, comments and corrections are welcome!

The sun is awfully quite right now Bob, there is a sunspot coming onto the face that is already showing signs of flaring activity, that should give you something to aim at.

Hi Bob, nice shot. Good practice run.

I have gotten into the habit of checking the GONG site prior to observing, so I can know what to expect during my observation attempt:

    GONG H-Alpha Network Monitor

As you can see by those images, there's not very much of anything going on, on the surface of the Sun right now.

If you blow that way up and look on the left edge near center, you might have picked up sunspot 2661 - http://spaceweather.com/images2017/0...v78dii81o9rqk5

Good job, Bob! There's quite a bit of detail there, just not any spots right now. You're on the right track.

    Thanks for the share.
