Default Solar Astrophotography Contest Apply Here

The New International AF.net Astrophotography Contest

    ************************************************** **************************************************

    Why submit:
    1) Biggest Astronomy Community in the World - Voting by over 112,000 members.
    2) Eternal bragging rights
    3) Eternal glory here Astronomy Astrophotography Contest Winners
    4) Certificate of Eternal Glory
    5) Community Badge Award of Eternal Glory
    --------------------
    New rules effective 5/28/2015 -
You no longer need to submit your images to the old 'gmail' account!!!

Images will be chosen directly from the Solar Astrophotography Forum or Solar Group
UPDATE: starting with the March 2017 contest we will be also checking the new Solar Imaging sub forum for the best solar images!

note: If you wish your image to be included please be sure that you only post ONE image per thread!!!! (note: if more than one image is posted ONLY the first image is eligible.) Images must be posted in the forum (no external links allowed!)

    *********************

We will still have the five categories as we had in the past and the qualifications will remain the same:

    Submission Categories:

    4. Sun: Any photograph of all or part of the sun that contains no objects from any other category.

The competition will be done as follows:

Monthly: The Photo Competition Moderator Team will review the images posted that month in the Solar Astrophotography Forum and will select a monthly winner for each category. (Note: this means that an image does not have to been made in that month, only posted to the forum that month.)

No prizes are awarded for monthly winners. However they will receive a mention in a Monthly Winner Announcement Thread.

Quarterly: For the quarterly competition, the Photo Competition Moderator Team will make a poll containing the three monthly winners in the quarter for each category.
The forum membership will then select via the posted poll for the quarterly winner for each category.

    General rules:

    1) Only forum members can participate (moderator posted images will not be included in the selections).
    2) Only members in good standing qualify (50 posts or more).
    3) Only photos (no videos will be considered)
    4) The image must be made by the member using the member’s equipment (as best the moderator team can substantiate)."
    5) Remember no images posted via links to outside websites (IE astrobin) will be allowed. Easiest way to tell if your photo will be considered is if it shows an image next to your post (like these)

The Quarterly Winners will receive the following:

**** A certificate from AF.net including your photo, suitable for framing! (emailed to the winners.)
**** Your photo and name posted in the AP hall of fame! Astrophotography Competition Hall of Fame & Advanced Astrophotography FAQs and will be displayed in the solar astrophotography wiki pages
**** We are working on a new sponsor for the AP contest! Ivo from APT has asked to take a break for calendar year 2017. Thanks so much for his generous contributions to the AP contest.

Gus, I think you'll find that Ivo is taking a break from 2017, not 2016.
Just to prove that I read posts.

I contest frequently. I am not a big gun or anything. I have only 100 watts. The best I have ever done in a contest is 10 hours with 311 contacts on cw. I hope to improve once I do more contests. 73
