Hello,
I just bought a new 6" Skywatcher Dob and it comes with a 25mm and 10mm eyepieces. So far I've been practising star hopping and finding bright stars. I've poked around Caseopeia, Cygnus, looked at Albeirto double and tried to find other things (please excuse the spelling...).
I'm looking for guidance on what I should expect to see with this telescope. I've tried very hard to see clusters and nebulas that are in and around the above mentioned constellations. So far I haven't really seen much. Are there any online references that may show pictures of objects as I would expect to see them through a telescope such as mine? Any suggestions on objects that I should try find, perhaps in the above mentioned constellations and close neighbours?
I would concentrate on easier clusters first, fainter Nebula require good condtions w/dark skys, I have more luck on the fainter ones during the winter months, longer evenings, crisp sky...
Two easy Galaxy and Nebula are Great Andormeda Galaxy( M31,M32, M110), for a rough zone, is off the bottom of the sharper lower V of the W Cassiopeia about constellation away, is a fuzzy one, but if conditions and skys are dark may pull in the two fainter companions, usually see only the nucleus brighter area, another is Great Orion Nebula comes up few hours before dawn if your an earlier riser, will see a big box sideways in the low east, three main stars of the Orion belt and below is the famed Orion Nebula, is nice even in the smallest scope and check out the 4 Star Trapezium nestled in the glow, good conditions bellows out even flower like, very nice...
A rather accurate drawing(s) on the brighter ones used a slightly smaller 120mm Refractor but in a very dark site, is true to form, my area is not dark enough to see details as shown in the Great Andromeda sketch, two companions are much lighter and again see more of the nucleus, but check out the others, gives an idea of what to expect....
