Default Skywatcher eq5 altitude adjustment problem

    Hello.

I recently purchased a skywatcher 200p that came with an eq5 mount. Last night I tried to polar align the scope and found that the altitude adjustment doesn't move through the full scale, instead of moving between 0 and 90 I can only adjust between around 20 and 60, is this normal?
I am including pictures to show the problem.

Yes, that is totally normal. Very few mounts will adjust over a full range of latitudes. Observers in the tropics or the high arctic are out of luck. Granted it is a bit misleading to have a 0-90 scale when the mount won't go that far. But the scales are notoriously inaccurate anyway, so pay no attention to it, except for a rough first guess.

Start with it at 50 for your location and do your polar alignment from there.

    Excellent, thank you Kathy.
I was concerned that I was going to have to send it back, it wouldn't be cheap.
It is very strange that they show 0-90 but only allow 20-60, I bet other people have had the same concern as I did.
    Thanks again.
