Default SkyMax 102 - possibility to add an external focuser

    Hello,

I'd be interested, please, if someone tried to installed a Crayford focuser on SkyMax 102?
I know that the size of the backplate (or, more precisely, the fact that the focuser knob is too close to the telecope thread) makes (theoretically) impossible that, but I'm thinking if it's maybe possible to remove the knob and so to leave the room for installing the Crayford (and the daptor for it, from T2 to SCT).

Thanks in advance for your support and replies.

what thread pitch and size is on the skymax 102 ? , keep in mind adding a focuser moves the focus point a bit thus requiring to push the mirror up closer to the secondary which will increase the f ratio still vary manageable it's only a small percentage .

Sorry, I have seen this rather late.
Like Yobbo says the mirror must be pushed up a little.
    Think about this solution:
    https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop...larauszug.html
The helical focusser is used for fine focussing. The course focussing is done with the standard internal focusser.
I have used such a solution on my 102mm SW Mak. It worked.

Another way of fine focussing with your 102mm SW Mak is this one, costs only a few cents:
Clothespin and Maksutov on shaky mount.
    This works even better!
