Default Synscan Pro GOTO upgrade for EQ3-2 Skywatcher 150P setup. Confused...

    Hi,

I've not been on here a while. I'm in the process of getting my stuff out for the winter and doing some minor upgrades.

Before someone replied the obvious - why not upgrade. I have a limited budget.

My scope was working happily with an RA single motor drive for tracking. I decided to upgrade and spent £279.00 with Optical Vision Ltd. on the Synscan Pro GOTO upgrade kit of the EQ3-2.

It arrived, well packaged. The box said EQ3 (albeit I clearly asked for the EQ3-2). Firstly, the instructions that came with it are minimal. It is a technical jigsaw puzzle at the moment and I'm scared !!!

Secondly, I noted the controller mount supplied if for a tubular leg and not the rectangular leg that has been sold with the EQ3-2.

Basically, was I sent the wrong kit? Am I the only one who has had this problem? Are there any detailed instructions out there on how to fit this to my scope? The instructions are really lacking.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know anything about the upgrade kit but good luck! Installation instructions or indeed any instructions by astronomical manufacturers are poor at best - it seems to be the norm!

I found this video... I don't think for the Eq3 particularly but it's the same kit... So perhaps it may clarify some things first.

I think the holder is round because it's for the EQ3-2 ( the 2 being meaning the 2nd version of the mount with the steel legs) I don't think there's a version of the kit particular for the aluminium tripod but you could ask Opticstar directly?

    Done it...

Not as scary as I first thought, but the instructions that came with the item are shockingly poor.

Will post some photo's - step-by-step install onto an EQ3-2

    Cheers

I'm limited to five photos. So will tell you what goes where, if you're planning to buy this kit.

    20150921_144408_resized.jpg

Large cog for Dec Gear. Small cog for RA.

    20150921_144438_resized.jpg

Left image is the Dec Motor. Right image is the RA Motor.

    20150921_145351_resized.jpg

RA motor fitted with RA cog. You then need to connect the cable to the black casing supplied and fix this casing using the two small screws supplied.

    20150921_150322_resized.jpg

Next move on to the Dec cog and fit this as shown above.

    20150921_150836_resized.jpg

The Dec Motor is then attached as shown.

Tighten all nuts and bolts but do not over tighten. Connect all the cables as per instruction. The rest is easy to follow.

I have more photo's so will add them to my Flickr account. Just search for jaq1967 on Flickr.

    Hope this helps.
