Default Celestron Onyx dew shield problem..

    Hi,
I seem to have a problem where the Dew shield on my Celestron Onyx 80 EDF tends to slip back through gravity if the scope is pointed upwards near the verticle. I have had the shield off and there appears to be some felt strip that the shield slide on and which I assume through friction is supposed to hold the shield out. The felt appears to be flattening and losing its "grip". Anyone else had the problem and how did you solve it. I also assume that most of the similar spec 80 ED scopes work on the same or similar principle.......

The dew shield normally ships with additional strips of the velvet friction tape - you can add additional layers on top of, as well as lateral to the existing friction tape to increase the dew shield to tube friction.

The material also wears over time, and needs to be replaced every season or two as it gets compressed and wet.

This stuff is available in the U.S. at fabric/sewing craft stores, as well as Wal*Mart.
