Default Killer deal, Sky-Watcher 100mm ED f/9 apochromatic optical tube

I hope it's ok to post this. I have no interest in it other than it looks to be a great deal.

Astronomics has the Sky-Watcher 100mm ED f/9 apochromatic optical tube on sale for $599 right now. I don't need one but if I had an extra $600 I'd pick one up just to have.

Jim, is it an apo or an achro ? If the latter, sounds like a smokin' deal for AP...

    Here is the web site

As far as I can tell it is a doublet objective, making it an Apochromatic telescope. The specs mention "Schott glass" used in the "Front Element" of the objective. But there is no mention of the other lens elements in the objective.

APOs are getting cheaper due to mass production in China.

That is a decent deal however I have seen some amazing deals lately for US residents:

    $999 for a Skywatcher 8" SC with NEQ6 mount!

$1099 for Skywatcher 100mm ED Computerized Apochromatic Refracting Telescope with EQ5P Synscan Mount

I would go for the top 2 for a few more bucks, better optics and an amazing mount!

Just be an educated buyer when dealing with refractors. I would not settle for less that an apochomatic doublet telescope. I have one, and I also have a short tube achromat which I almost never use due to its chromatic abberation.

Some good prices. Competition can be good for the customer. Long as it doesn't affect the quality. Not familiar with Skywatcher but it looks pretty good. If I were in the market I would seriously consider the SCT.

I chose and SCT as my first serious telescope back in 1997. The SCT is a versatile instrument. A couple of years ago I purchase dhe Orion ED80 APO for planetary use.
