Default Is the Vivitar refractor telescope good for seeing stars? If not what are the best

ones? Is the 50X/100X any good?

My automatic reaction to this is "no." I checked it on the web, and it's advertised by its power. That's almost always a bad sign.
Good telescopes for viewing the stars are advertised by their aperture, that is the size of the objective lens.
The absolute minimum that you would want for stargazing is 60mm.
Look at Meade and Orion and check out what they offer for the beginning astronomer.
Also, the Vivitar suggests it's good for sporting events also, which means its image is right-side up. That's what you want for terrestrial viewing, but for astronomy it means that there are extra optical elements in the light path that cut down on the amount of light being transmitted--again bad for astronomy.

Yep - it's a piece of cr*p

I can't believe how much some places are charging for it - you could get a reasonable 4.5" reflector for the same money.
