I was under the impression this new one was supposed to be a doublet.
In 2016 Astronomics made a triplet FPL-53 150mm and did not proceed with it as they could not get the price below $6000USD
Thid definitely shows the price difference between FPL-53 and FK-61.

Default Re: The Sky-Watcher ED Doublet 150mm Is Now For Sale

    Hello all,

the announcement for the Sky-Watcher 150ED F/8 comes here through the Optical Vision Ltd.
    Sky-Watcher EVOSTAR-150ED DS-PRO (OTA) 150mm (6") f/8 ED Apochromatic Refractor Telescope - Optical Vision Ltd

    The specs are marketing-like:
    - Matched crown glass to the ED glass ??? (crown is always to be matched to the ED or flint, no way around)
    - The proprietary Sky-Watcher “Metallic High-Transmission Coatings” (MHC) are the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class (photon anti-rejection coatings!!! - did I miss the classes?)

The German page of the Optical Vision Ltd. specifies even less, leaving out the 'photon anti-rejection' phenomenon.

Some comments are here in the 'astrotreff' Astrotreff - Astronomie Treffpunkt - neuer Evostar 150 ED Sky-Watcher , but they may come from the jealous people having just the achros.

Otherwise, this Sky-Watcher may turn out to be a very good choice for all visual observing tasks requiring the middle-to-low speed F/8 optics. And when they improve the lens cell centering mechanics, why not.

    Being still curious,

My question is, with all of the negative possibilities in knowing or not knowing the glass and the apparently common case of imperfect centering could this scope be worth what they are asking.
I don't get the idea of a company with a respectable following putting out a complete dog. I know that happens, but how bad could it be? I suppose VERY bad, but would they not stand behind their product.

Anyway, It is difficult to read between the lines to get real information on this telescope. I confess it is very attractive to me as I have been well pleased with the 100ED I have presently.
I realize no one here can give more as no one has one.
Maybe I will just go ahead and get one...
I just don't want to get completely flamed... :-)

I have read an article recently discussing the movement away from FPL53 by even the high end telescope makers.

The larger manufacturers are moving away from FPL-53 as it never has been a very cost effective glass.
    Hoya/ CDGM is concentrating on FPL-55, FK-61, FCD-1 and FCD-100
LZOS is still making OK-4 and other specialty glasses and a lot of the premium manufacturers are back using Fluorite again.

SW has a well established line with 100mm and 120mm used and loved by many. They would be crazy to rush a half-baked product and ruin good line reputation. Also, they have 150mm achro which is the same as Celestron C6R and a good scope within it achro limits.

I feel they should managed a decent visual 150ED. I would not worry too much about the glass type. As long as it is sharp and I can't see blue ring around full Moon, I will be fine.

I love that "photon anti-rejection coatings" claim! I have noticed it on a few manufacturer's blurbs, and it always gives me a smile. I'm sure we could think up a few similar claims, like the close to "100% photon anti-transmission coating" on my 12" reflector...

PS: I am still waiting for Skywatcher to approach me to give an unbiased consumer pre-test of the proposed 150ED...

This line in Skywatcher marketing always makes me smile a bit: Star clusters appear especially aesthetically pleasing in this refractor, with stars in the image often coming extremely close to being 'pin sharp'.

I wonder if "extremely close to being 'pin sharp'" is the same as the more popular "tack sharp"? Are pins sharper than tacks?

I wonder how many stars as seen through a 150ED refractor fit on the head of a pin?
