Default Does every Stellarvue scope come with an interferometer report guaranteeing. 95 streh

I'd like to buy a Stellarvue refractor specifically because the scopes are guaranteed to test better than .95 strehl, but does this apply to the SV110ED too, or just the premium triplet scopes? If the SV110ED comes with the same report, i'll but it.

All of the SV's come with their test report - you can call their customer service line for specifics.

I think you had better ask, but I don't think that every Stellarvue scope comes with a test. I think only the triplets are tested. The 102 ,115,130 and 160.

Do they really guarantee .95 or better Strehl? Where is that on their literature?

    Matt,

I don't think it is a claim that is documented in their literature yet. It has been claimed on their facebook page and a few other places. Actually only the APOs are claimed to be of 0.95 Strehl. By definition an APO has to be 0.95 Strehl or better, so basically they are just saying that their APOs are APOs. It's one of those marketing things that Stellarvue is so good at doing.

OK thanks Laurie, as Stan said, they guarantee their APOs to be 'apochromatic'.
I've only had their finders myself, and used one of their EDs, nice scopes.

    Hi Stan,

Just wondering where you found the definition of an APO as having 0.95 Strehl?

Thomas Back wrote: "The modern definition of "apochromat" is the following: An objective in which the wave aberrations do not exceed 1/4 wave optical path difference (OPD) in the spectral range from C (6563A - red) to F (4861A - blue), while the g wavelength (4358A - violet) is 1/2 wave OPD or better, has three widely spaced zero color crossings and is corrected for coma." (see: TMB Website )

My understanding is that 1/4 wave optics equate to roughly a Strehl of 0.8, or "diffraction limited" optics. (see: Strehl ratio )

A Strehl of 0.95 is exceptionally good, and I suspect rarely attained in practice, even for most high-end Apos...
Stellarvue claim this on their site in the specs for their 102 Apo triplet, but I am not sure about their other scopes.

The other thing I think we need to be aware of, is that the Strehl ratio can and does vary with wavelength: so when a manufacturer claims a particular figure, they should also state at what wavelength their measurement was obtained.

Best advice I can give "Saturninus" is to ring Stellarvue and find out. I suspect most of their scopes, Apo or Achro, have a Strehl less than 0.95, but all would be at least better than 0.8, or "diffraction limited".

Hi Dean-they definitely make this claim on the website for 115mm triplet as well. They say for both scopes .95 or better
