Default Visual benefit 72 doublet vs 98 triplet

How much of a visual upgrade would WO FLT98 (triplet) be over my Megrez 72? What additional detail would I see on say Mars/Saturn and would it be able to resolve a few more DSOs? (I know this isn't a small refractors strength). Additionally It will be used with a Canon DSLR for astroimaging.

What I don't want to do is save up and buy a 98-101 apo, notice little improvement and then immediately wish I had saved up big bucks for FLT123 or Televue 127........

    Thanks
    Niall

You are going to see a nice jump going from 72mm to 100....that's a lot more light grasp.

Of course jumping to a 127 would be a HUGE increase in light gathering......and size.....weight......mount required....etc...

Depends on what you want and use it for. For Grab-N-Go it's tough to beat the 72 but then again most would consider a 100 to still fall within Grab-N-Go status. A 127 is NOT Grab-N-Go.

    Thanks,
I am currently looking at the 98-101 for that reason (portability). I was planning to use a HEQ5 Goto mount at home but not sure what portable mount would comfortably handle the televue 101 - maybe one of televue's own wooden alt-az mounts? (again a little pricey)

I would think that the Astronomy Technologies Astro-Tech Voyager for $299 would do the trick.

A true 20lb load capacity and it weighs under 14lbs.
