    Default New 127ED and NEQ6

Just purchased a new ED127mm triplet Carbon Fibre from North Group (China). Scope arrived today and looks terrific.
Deal was tube, dew shield, standard focuser, illuminated finder scope, diagonal eyepiece holder, 1.25-2" adapter and aluminium carry case. Came ready to use. Fits perfectly with my NEQ6 mount, which I purchased a couple of weeks ago. This set up is for eventual move into astrophotography, but with the money spent on these two, that will have to wait. My loving wife said, that's my birthday, christmas and father day presents for the next two years!
The weather gods have caught me out - rain for three days here in Melb, so it's set up in lounge room with wishful veiwing.

Clear skies from one very happy (little frustrated with the weather) astronomer.

Sounds like a great setup for some AP. If you already have a camera, try some short exposure (<30 sec). You will be amazed what you can get stacking a bunch of short exposures.

Grats on the new gear and clear skies to ya.

Congratulations on what sounds like a great performing scope. From your post it sounds like you bought direct from the manufacturer? Many times you don't know for sure since Chinese trading companies try to pass themselves off as one. You have to dig deeper to reveal the facts.

    Thanks guys,
Clouds cleared for several hours last night, so a quick polar and 2 star alignment and I was off and running. Great mount, slewed to several favourites including Saturn, Jewel Box, M4, M7, Omega Cen, Tarangula Neb and several clusters in Carina. I am very impressed with the scope. Clear and precise stars with dark background. Tried out several eyepieces and was enthralled with the vews from the 10mm Ethos.

Jim, I intend to buy a DSLR, looking at the Cannon 600D, but have spent enough for now, so will put that off for a while.

John, it all comes down to research. Spent over two months researching the net, checking references and user comments and sending numerous e-mails. Also spoke to several people who had actually delt with the companies and in the end was quite confident with North Group. Their service has been very good.

Beautiful Rod! That is a great looking rig, and I have one suggestion to make it even better. I built plywood stabilizing trays for my Synta mounts that tighten the tripods up amazingly while providing a large, customizable shelf for eye pieces and other accessories. All you need is some 1/2" plywood, a length of M12 threaded rod stock to fit, an M12 rod coupler, a locking knob, and some nuts & washers. The coupler will lock the new rod into the existing stock factory rod under the aluminum eye piece tray, and the locking knob under the plywood tray will snug it up. Below is a picture of one I built for an EQ-5P, I also made them for my Orion Sirius (HEQ-5P) and Orion Atlas (EQ-6P)...they take ALL flexure out of the tripod, reduce vibrations, and make it rock solid. If you are interested and have any questions, just let me know here or with a PM.

    Clear Skies, Brian
